St. Gregory Nazianzen (ca. 325-389 A.D.)
Like his fellow Cappadocians, Gregory Nazianzen was forced to combat heresy.
In his case, Apollinarianism, Nestorianism, and the Macedonian heresy. In addition
to his theological accomplishments, Nazianzen was a great poet - Villemain has called him
"the poet of Eastern Christendom." He was a vigorous defender of the full humanity of Christ,
using scripture and philosophical reason hand-in-hand to offer proof of this dogma.
Notable among his prose writings are the Orations and his Letters.
